In
a country with tight restrictions on just about everything, it
is a testament to the power and vision of Raúl “Camilo”
de la Vega Diaz’s craft that his artwork has been championed
by the Cuban Ministry of Art like no other national artist. Camilo
has been given the distinct honor of exhibiting his work in many
parts of the world. It is with great fortune and pleasure that
we now introduce Camilo's work to the United States as well.
Given
the opportunity to leave Cuba legally, Camilo has chosen to remain
in his beloved Havana where he tirelessly dedicates himself to
painting the “real” Cuba as only he can portray it.
Camilo's art is at once playful, colorful, sorrowful, mysterious,
joyous, dreamy, richly textured, slyly political without judgment
or opinion, uniquely Camilo!
Camilo
is a true force of nature whose talent transcends borders, politics,
